Born and raised in Philadelphia, Bruce Cox discovered his calling early — drawn to the shimmer of drums and the heartbeat of rhythm at just five years old. His passion led him through the halls of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts, and ultimately to a scholarship at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he honed his craft among some of the brightest talents in jazz — a journey that would carry him far beyond the classroom and across continents. In the 1980s, Bruce’s musical path took him to Paris, where he immersed himself in the European jazz scene, performing in local clubs and captivating audiences with his soulful, genre-blending drumming. Johnson, and Fred Wesley and the New JB’s, Bruce became known for his versatility — a drummer equally at home in straight-ahead jazz, Latin grooves, reggae, or deep funk.
